Information and Policies

This section of the Pitman Training Ireland website sets out the various procedures, policies and statements that inform all learners of the processes we adopt as a training provider.  You can scroll down or highlight any specific topic.

Pitman Training Centres Ireland - Mission Statement
Pitman Training aims to achieve and sustain excellence in every area of its involvement in learning, thereby maintaining and developing its historical position as a world-class provider of skills education, and enriching national and regional communities in Ireland through the success of its methods and the skills of its learners.

Choosing a Course and Enrolment Procedures
Deciding on the best training to fit with your plans for the future is a key decision.  For this very reason we ask every enquirer to come and visit their nearest Pitman Training Centre to fully discuss their current skills and the programmes we offer to match their career aspirations.  The process for the self-paced learning we provide is fully explained and a demonstration provided.  Flexible attendance schedules will be agreed and these enable our programmes to appeal to a wide diversity of learners.  Whatever your situation it is worth an hour of your time to check out the Pitman Training learning programmes that we offer.

Simply go to the ‘Contact Us’ page on our website and you can even pick the date and time to meet up at your local training centre.

Our enrolment procedures will be fully explained to you and if you wish, you can immediately decide to start your learning and begin the very next day.

Health & Safety Policy
It is Pitman Training’s purpose to protect employees and learners from accident or ill health at work or training.  The company will seek to ensure that all our equipment and systems do not constitute a risk to the Health & Safety of our employees or learners and we will consult with employees on risk improvements.  The following points set out our approach to Health & Safety in that we will:

Equality Statement
Pitman Training is committed to working towards the elimination of discrimination and exclusion through the achievement of equality of opportunity, participation and positive outcome for all learners. As a learning provider, Pitman Training recognises that inequalities exist within our society and that not all people have equal access to services.  The strategic plan seeks to work with the diversity of people and to proactively encourage and support participation for all.  The following 9 grounds as defined under the Equal Status Act 2002 will embrace the focus of the plan.

Specifically, Pitman Training will:

Protection for Learners
We confirm that arrangements are in place to comply with Section 43.2.a of the Qualifications Act (1999) in respect of students undertaking learning programmes that have durations of more than three months.  All learning programmes for each FETAC examination must be completed within the 3 month period stated on the enrolment form.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Every attempt is made to ensure that we provide full recognition of any prior learning that has been undertaken.  Students must though prove their competencies with recognised certification in order that the appropriate level of recognition is provided with reference to the learning programme being undertaken.  Whatever allowance may be provided for RPL, students should note that they must still sit the Pitman Training exam for the subject area in which some level of recognition has been granted. In certain cases, e.g. IT certification, we may only recognise exams taken within the last three years and where students can show and demonstrate they have current skills.

Data Protection Policy
Under the Data Protection Act, 1988 and the Data Protection (Amendment) Act, 2003, organisations that process personal data have a legal responsibility and are required to conform to Data Protection Rules as set out by the Data Protection Commissioner.  Under the guidelines set out by the Data Protection Commissioner we will only use your information to provide and personalise our service.  We may use your information to send you offers and news about Pitman Training products and services.  We will also use your contact details to communicate with you either by telephone, fax, e-mail or post.  If you do not want to receive commercial communications from us, then please indicate your choice when you enrol for a learning programme.  Please note that there may be instances where it may be necessary for us to communicate with you, in any event, for administrative or operational reasons relating to our service.

Appeals Procedures

Enrolments
There may be occasions when Pitman Training is unable to enrol a potential learner for the programme they wish to study.  An example would be where the level of learning to be undertaken is too advanced and would result, in our opinion, in the student encountering difficulty with the standards set for course progression.  If this is the case we will assist in identifying alternative learning at a more appropriate level.  Potential learners may appeal any such decision and should, in the first instance, contact the Training Manager in their Training Centre.

Course Attendance
Regular attendance at training sessions is an essential and will be a major factor in the level of success achieved.  Where attendance is sporadic and inconsistent, e.g. non-attendance for a month or more without prior warning and agreement, then Pitman Training reserve the right to withdraw the learner from the course and cancel all arrangements.  It is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that the Training Centre is fully informed of any circumstances that might affect their regular attendance.  Learners may appeal any such decision and should, in the first instance, contact the Training Manager in their Training Centre.

Examination Results
All students have the right to appeal the result of any examination that they have undertaken in a Pitman Training Centre.  We maintain set procedures in this area and any student wishing to appeal must do so immediately after the result is notified to them.  Students should contact the Training Manager in their Training Centre for further information regarding the Examination Results Appeals Procedure.
